Power facilities targeted in the region
The country's energy systems have come under increased strikes in the past few days

Throughout the evening, Russian missile and drone strikes have caused blackouts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, the Ukrainian capital.

A number of civilians were injured while inhabitants in the city's east were experienced blackouts and dealt with disruption to water supplies, according to local authorities.

At the same time, a young boy was killed in a different Russian drone strike in the southeastern region in the country's south-east, according to regional authorities.

Moscow has increased strikes on power infrastructure over recent weeks, while Ukrainian leadership has requested "real steps" from allies to exert influence on Russia.

"What is required is not symbolic gestures but firm measures - from the US, Europe and the G7 - in supplying protection systems and implementing restrictions," he wrote in a public message.

Officials stated that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and several dozen projectiles targeted the country's power systems, characterizing such assaults as "premeditated" and against "critical infrastructure" as temperatures become colder.

Energy officials said Russia was "inflicting a massive strike" and technical staff were working to repair systems.

A barrage of missiles hit electrical systems and apartment buildings in Kyiv.

Five out of the nine people injured in the assaults on the capital have been transported for medical care, per statements from city authorities.
