The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Follows Poor Reception

Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster early showing last autumn.

Recently, 2K president a key figure informed staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a more defined game identity.

The president expressed that the team is now refining the project with a renewed vision, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

This announcement follows a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the entire text from Ismailer's memo:

Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”

Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was enlightening. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a more distinct vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the input to mind and revamped the title with a renewed direction - one that’s ready to achieve its potential to our audience.

The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of the team. Following several months of discussions, he comes aboard us on the specified date.

Ben’s leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to keep witnessing the evolution of the game in the weeks to come.

Background of the Incoming Leader

Brinkman currently holds the role of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at major gaming companies in various development positions on the iconic franchise series, and, prior to that, had stints at other industry leaders.

Title Details and Concept

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year alongside a community playtest. At the time, the developers described the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an innovative step forward on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch reads. "Challenge the competition with new abilities, risks, and tests that change every round. Do you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively go big, gamble everything, and hope your group can earn top ranking? The choice is in your hands."

Project Ethos does not have an official launch window or supported systems, but enthusiasts can look forward to more updates as production advances.
